Summary

Nokomis Elementary serves 342 students in kindergarten through grade 5 in Ukiah, in the Ukiah Unified area. In 2025–2026, its results were below state averages in English language arts (ELA), math, and science: 24% versus 49% in ELA, 20% versus 38% in math, and 20% versus 36% in science. Most importantly, the low results are evident across all three subjects, and Nokomis ranked near the bottom of its nearby-school comparisons.

Grade 5 ELA is a relative bright spot: 37% of students were proficient, about the same as the district and third-highest among Nokomis and six nearby schools with comparable results. By contrast, Nokomis’s all-grade results were below nearby-school averages by 8 points in ELA, 10 in math, and 7 in science. It was also below the district by 11 points in ELA, 3 in math, and 6 in science, and below the state by 25, 18, and 16 points, respectively. Grade 3 and grade 4 math were particularly weak, at 16% and 23%; both were lowest among Nokomis and nearby schools with comparable grade-level figures.

Math has improved most over time: proficiency rose 6 points from 2022–2023 to 2025–2026, while ELA was roughly unchanged and science increased 3 points. The state gap narrowed by 3 points in math but widened by 3 points in both ELA and science.
