Summary

Peters Canyon Elementary is a highly-regarded K-5 public school serving 399 students in the Tustin Unified School District, consistently ranking in the top 10% of all California elementary schools.

Academically, the school excels, with over 75% of students proficient in English and Math, outperforming both district and state averages. What truly sets Peters Canyon apart is its exceptional support for all students, particularly those in special education and from economically disadvantaged backgrounds; it ranks in the 96th and 92nd percentiles statewide for these groups, respectively. This means it achieves strong results while serving a more diverse student population than some of the highest-performing neighboring schools like Tustin Memorial Elementary or Orchard Hills.

The school demonstrates remarkable consistency and resilience, maintaining high performance over time even through demographic shifts. It achieves these outcomes efficiently, with per-student spending slightly below the district average for comparable schools. While some area schools with lower chronic absenteeism rates, like Hicks Canyon Elementary, rank slightly higher, Peters Canyon's ability to maintain strong academics with a moderate absenteeism rate suggests very effective classroom instruction and support systems.

Open Quote My child has attended this school since K and is now in 1st grade. We come from an outside district and all I can say about this school is that it is great. From the teachers to the parents and I believe the combination of the two is what makes this school great. I truly believe in parental involvement (volunteering, etc....). Close Quote

Open Quote WORST school ever!! Moved to Newport Beach and met several families who have also attended and agree. My children fell behind due to a very turbulent divorce. Completely disgusted and highly disappointed with the staffs inability to help families in crisis. Had several meetings where I was told there was nothing 'extra' they would do in order to help and I was to do more at home. NOTE: TURBULENT DIVORCE(not to mention I only had them 50% of the time). My girls dreaded school. They now attend NEWPORT COAST ELEMENTARY. A true example of and outstanding school. Their method of teaching is outside the box and all they do is 'extra'.(ALL within school hrs.) Not only did they catch up within the first year...they LOVE school. Peters Canyon staff needs to take a field trip to NCE and take notes! Close Quote
