Summary:

Tustin has 18 schools serving elementary through high-school grades, including alternative schools; enrollment ranges from 142 to 1,627 students. In 2025–2026, the schools’ unweighted average results were 53% in English language arts (ELA), 44% in math and 40% in science, each above the state average by 4, 6 and 4 percentage points, respectively. But those averages hide the most important finding: school results vary widely, with 60 points between the highest and lowest ELA scores, 77 in math and 73 in science.

Legacy Magnet Academy led in ELA and science, with 84% and 77%; its scores were 35 and 41 points above the state, respectively. Peters Canyon Elementary led math at 77%, 38 points above the state, and also scored 77% in both ELA and science. Among conventional middle schools, Pioneer Middle stood out with 75% ELA, 65% math and 57% science. At the bottom, Hillview High (Continuation) scored 24% in ELA, 0% in math and 4% in science—25, 38 and 32 points below state results.

Group averages rose from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026 by 3 points in ELA, 4 in math and 6 in science; 14 schools improved in ELA, 15 in math and 17 in science. SchoolDigger’s statewide rankings also place Heritage Elementary, Peters Canyon and Pioneer in the 93rd, 94th and 92nd percentiles, respectively. Income figures offer context, not an explanation: Benjamin F. Beswick Elementary had 91% free/reduced lunch eligible in 2024–2025 and scored 48% in ELA and 46% in math, while Robert Heideman Elementary had 97% eligible and scored 36% and 35%. Because schools serve different grade spans, All Grades comparisons may not be like-for-like.
