Open Quote Villa is a "lottery" school. That means you have to be selected. My daughter was selected, and I was happy because of a special program that helps advanced students get into private prep schools called ABC (A Better Chance). With budget cuts, there is no support for any extra clubs or programs now, and the support for the ABC program was greatly diminished by the time she was in eighth grade.

Aside from the ABC program, the revolving door of principals keeps the school in a state of flux and has caused low morale among the teachers, many of them giving in to mediocrity. My student reported that some teachers did nothing more than hand out a worksheet. If you are looking for a finer level of education for your student, keep looking. This school is touted as a fundamental school, but is not really giving students a more rigorous or advanced education. The latest principal shows promise, but who knows how long she will stay. Many good teachers are looking for transfers.

Hopefully, Villa will find a way to resolve these issues and re-build their reputation. Close Quote

Open Quote Villa Fundamental is a phenomenal school that accomplishes much & has a lot of parent involvement. Villa hosts several events and provides students with after school tutoring, extracurricular activities, and intramural sports. Overall, Hispanic students make up the majority of Villa's population. However, there are a plethora of other race students. Villa also offers the ABC program, which helps high-achieving students attend private high schools throughout the country. Villa is a great option for parents to send their children to. They also offer a program for disabled kids. Villa also has an excellent AVID program and Leadership(ASB)program, as well as other clubs such as Yearbook & Journalism. Additionally, Villa has a strictly enforced dress code:Solid Red, White, Navy blue Solid shirts; black, khaki, navy blue pants; Solid red, white, navy blue sweaters. Logos on attire must be small. Belts are required and shirts must be tucked in at all times\: Villa, however, also has themed days and dances on which students could dress otherwise and every Friday students may wear jeans as long as the have purchased and are wearing a spirit shirt. Villa has numerous sports from boys soccer to girls soccer from girls basketball to boys basketball from softball to track&field from cross country to boys flag football from wrestling to many other sports. Villa is truly an excellent school. Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio
Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
