Summary

Urbita Elementary is a public K-6 school serving about 390 students in the San Bernardino City Unified district, an area where schools face significant academic challenges.

The school's overall academic performance is low, ranking in the bottom 15% of California elementary schools, with fewer than a quarter of students proficient in core subjects like English and math. However, when compared to some nearby schools in the same district, such as H. Frank Dominguez Elementary and Juanita Blakely Jones Elementary, Urbita performs better in math and science. A notable bright spot is its lower rate of chronic student absenteeism (27.3%), which is better than several surrounding schools and shows marked improvement from recent years.

Interestingly, Urbita spends more per student ($24,881) than other local schools, but this higher investment has not yet led to stronger academic results compared to a school like Hardy Brown College Prep, a charter school with similar spending but much higher performance. The school shows relative strength in supporting English Language Learners and has seen volatile test scores in recent years, indicating it is working to find consistent strategies for improvement across all grade levels.

Open Quote Urbita has a small, caring environment with top-notch staff. Every teacher on campus is positive, hard-working and very good at what they do. They put in extra time and effort and genuinely care for students. Many of the teachers enroll their own children at Urbita for the positive culture and challenging academics. It is a great place to work and a great place for students to learn. Close Quote
