Summary

Suy:u Elementary serves 392 students in kindergarten through grade 6 in Sacramento and is part of Sacramento City Unified. In 2025–26, 22% of students were proficient in English language arts (ELA), 17% in math, and 14% in science. Those results were below the district by 20, 15, and 16 percentage points, respectively, and below the state by 27, 21, and 22 points. The most important takeaway is that achievement remains substantially below both district and state levels in all three subjects.

Compared with nine nearby K–6 schools in the district, Suy:u ranked sixth of 10 in each subject and scored 8 points below their average in ELA, 9 points below in math, and 2 points below in science. Fourth grade is a relative bright spot: its ELA and math results ranked fourth and third among those 10 schools, while third-grade ELA and fifth-grade math were weaker locally. The school is therefore around the middle of the nearby group overall, but that picture varies by grade and subject.

Results have improved since 2022–23 in ELA (from 15% to 22%) and science (from 6% to 14%), while math was essentially unchanged at 17%; the math gap to the state widened from 17 to 21 points. SchoolDigger placed Suy:u at the 10th percentile statewide and gave it one star in 2025–26. One notable exception in its student-group rankings: SchoolDigger ranked how well the school serves English Language Learner Students at the 60th percentile in 2023–24, compared with the school’s overall 12th percentile. The 2024–25 student-teacher ratio was 22.9. That year, 76% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible, below the 84% average at nearby peers; California provided free school meals to all students statewide. Chronic absenteeism was 27% in 2025–26, up 7 points from the prior year and above the state’s 18%.
