Summary

Ybarra Academy for the Arts and Technology is a K-8 public school serving about 630 students in Walnut, CA, within the Rowland Unified School District, known for achieving solid academic results with efficient use of resources.

The school consistently outperforms its district and the state in English, Math, and Science, and it has a particular strength in supporting English Learner students. While its statewide ranking has seen some fluctuation, it remains a strong performer within its district context, especially when compared to some neighboring schools like Rorimer Elementary or Hollingworth Elementary. However, it faces challenges with inconsistent performance across different grade levels and lower academic outcomes for its Asian student subgroup compared to other groups. The school's chronic absenteeism rate is lower than average, which is a positive sign of student engagement.

When looking at the broader area, a notable performance gap exists between schools in the Rowland Unified district and those in the adjacent, higher-rated Walnut Valley Unified district, such as Vejar Elementary and Walnut Elementary. Within its own district, Ybarra is a competitive option, performing comparably to nearby 4-star schools like Shelyn Elementary and Blandford Elementary, though those schools currently have slightly higher rankings.

Open Quote Having recently leaving this school into high school I feel like should give my two cents. In all honesty this school isn't the greatest like everyone says it is. Yes some of the teachers are good, but I feel it ill-prepared for high school. Granted I'm not going to Rowland, but I feel this school should have prepared me in some way. The first week of high school was very difficult for me. So in conclusion, if you want to your child at Ybarra no ones stopping you, but I suggest you move them to Suzzanne for junior high.
