Mabel M. Paine Elementary serves 419 students in kindergarten through grade 5 in Yorba Linda, within the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified district. In 2025–2026, students’ proficiency rates in English language arts (ELA), math and science were all above California’s rates. The schoolwide results are strong statewide, but fourth-grade ELA is the clearest academic concern: 57% were proficient, 8 points below the district and 20 points below the average at nearby K–5 schools.

Compared with the three nearby K–5 schools, Paine’s all-grade ELA proficiency was 68%, below their 77% average; math was 69%, below their 75% average; and science was 64%, nearly matching their 64% average. Against the state, Paine was ahead by 18 points in ELA, 30 in math and 28 in science. It was also above district rates in all three subjects, though its ELA lead was just 1 point, compared with 11 points in math and 12 in science. Fifth-grade math was a bright spot: 70% were proficient, close to the matched schools’ 70% average.
