Summary

Palo Verde High is a public high school serving about 740 students in grades 9-12 in the rural community of Blythe, California, as part of the Palo Verde Unified school district.

The school has a significant strength in graduating its students, with a rate of over 93% that exceeds the state average, but it faces serious academic challenges, particularly in mathematics where fewer than 7% of students met state standards. Attendance is also a major concern, with chronic absenteeism affecting about one-third of students. Compared to the nearby Twin Palms Continuation school, Palo Verde High shows stronger outcomes in graduation, test scores, and attendance, and it operates with significantly less funding per student.

While the school's statewide ranking has been volatile and is currently low, it performs better than its district average in several areas. Recent increases in spending have not yet led to improved test scores, indicating a focus on how resources are used is critical. The most urgent needs for the school are addressing the very low math proficiency, improving student attendance, and ensuring effective support for all student groups to build on its success in getting students to graduation.

Open Quote This is a horrible school. Administration and most teachers are only there for the paychecks. Illegal searches of students to attend graduation and breathalyzer to enter prom. Now they are blocking off handicapped parking spots. Close Quote
