Summary

Palmquist Elementary is a public K-5 school serving about 512 students in the Oceanside Unified district, ranking slightly above the state average and performing well compared to many other schools in its own district.

When looking at nearby schools, Palmquist stands out for its strong improvement in student attendance and its solid academic results relative to its resources. The school has dramatically reduced chronic absenteeism over the past few years, now having one of the best attendance rates in Oceanside Unified. Academically, it consistently outperforms the district average in math and science, and it achieves these outcomes while spending less per student than some other local schools like Laurel Elementary. However, a notable performance gap exists between districts; schools just a couple of miles away in the Carlsbad Unified district, such as Buena Vista Elementary and Magnolia Elementary, generally achieve higher statewide rankings.

Within its district, Palmquist is a strong performer, often ranking second only to North Terrace Elementary. Parents should note that while the school's overall standing is good, performance can vary significantly by grade level, with 3rd and 5th grades showing particular strength. The analysis also indicates the school faces ongoing challenges in supporting some student subgroups, whose performance rankings have recently declined.

Open Quote I have had a wonderful experience at this school. I have twins. They started in Kinder last year and they had Acosta and Robison. Both wonderful. The PTO are really strong and they offer after school sessions in many subjects. I am not a PTO member, but my kids did karate and dance and had a great time. Academic standards are high. First grade has been crazy we had a relocation of schools due to construction and things really do seem to be out of control as they find their footing in a new location but everyone is trying really hard.
I love this school. My kids love and have excelled at this school. Close Quote
