Summary

Red Oak Elementary is a top-performing public school serving 569 students in grades K-5 within the high-achieving Oak Park Unified district in Oak Park, CA, consistently ranking in the top 5% of all California elementary schools.

The school demonstrates remarkable academic strength, particularly in mathematics where nearly 80% of students are proficient—more than double the state average. It also shows exceptional effectiveness in supporting specific student groups, achieving rankings in the 96th to 100th percentile for Hispanic students and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds. While part of a strong district with other excellent schools like Brookside Elementary and Oak Hills Elementary, Red Oak consistently outperforms its local peers, maintaining this excellence even with larger class sizes and moderate per-student spending compared to some neighbors.

Interesting comparisons reveal that school success isn't just about location or funding; for example, Yerba Buena Elementary, less than a mile away in a different district, ranks significantly lower, and White Oak Elementary spends considerably more per student but does not achieve higher results. Red Oak has also successfully reduced chronic absenteeism post-pandemic. While the school excels in most areas, its performance with special education students presents a noted opportunity for growth, standing in contrast to its otherwise outstanding record of serving all learners effectively.
