Montebello Intermediate is a district-run middle school in Montebello, California, serving grades 6–8 with 733 students in the Montebello Unified area. Its 2025–26 results show some improvement, but proficiency remains below the state in English language arts (ELA), math, and science. The clearest overall concern is that math and science are also below district results, while only ELA is slightly above the district.

ELA is the school’s strongest subject compared with nearby schools, while science is its weakest. Among nine nearby schools serving grades 6–8, Montebello ranked fifth in ELA and math, and seventh in science; its scores were below the peer averages by about 1 point in ELA, 4 in math, and 5 in science. ELA proficiency was 38%, compared with 37% in the district and 49% statewide. Math was 22%, versus 25% in the district and 38% statewide; science was 19%, versus 22% and 36%, respectively. One subgroup result stands out: SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile for English Language Learner Students rose from 29 in 2021–22 to 59 in 2023–24, 25 points above the school’s overall percentile that year.
