Summary

Woodland Elementary is a K-8 public school serving 435 students in the Mariposa County Unified district, which ranks in the lower half of districts statewide, and has seen a significant decline in its academic ranking over the past several years.

The school faces notable challenges, including a chronic absenteeism rate of 32.4%, which is much higher than the state average and nearby schools like Wasuma Elementary (19.5%) and Sierra Foothill Charter (14.5%). Academic performance is inconsistent across grades, with 7th grade students performing well above average in math and English, while 4th and 8th grade scores are much lower. Compared to other local schools, Woodland Elementary shows a more pronounced downward trend in statewide ranking.

When looking at the area, charter schools such as Mountain Home Charter (Alternative) and Sierra Foothill Charter consistently achieve higher proficiency rates, even with similar or lower per-student funding. Mathematics is a challenge for all schools in the region, with none significantly exceeding the state average. The school's recent improvement in student-teacher ratio is a positive step, but addressing attendance and learning from the successful practices of higher-performing grades and nearby schools appear to be key areas for potential improvement.

Open Quote Woodland Elementary School is a dirty, unorganized mess of a school. There are NO resources for students if they are falling behind. The staff all run around with their heads cut off, the classrooms are loud, disorganized, dirty and have WAY too many kids to even begin to think about providing a proper education to. Everything is tired and worn out, there is no new anything provided, the teachers even ask for class room supplies. This school focuses more on the free lunch program and low income family reimbursement than education, more than half the families that go here are low income. The curriculum is of no standard, they teach CORE math which is a joke and they are literally just counting kids every day here to get their money from the state. I would NOT recommend this school to anyone, I would recommend moving out of the area if you are worried about education for your children! Close Quote
