Summary

Goethe International Charter is a K–8 school in Los Angeles serving 419 students, with nearby schools offering useful comparisons. Its results are above state and district averages in all three tested subjects, and chronic absenteeism is notably low. The clearest concern for families comparing local options is math: Goethe had the lowest all-grades math proficiency among seven nearby Los Angeles Unified schools.

Science is Goethe’s strongest subject against state and district benchmarks: 59% of students were proficient in 2025–26, compared with 36% statewide and 32% in Los Angeles Unified. Its result was also about 8 points above the nearby-school average, and its fifth-grade science proficiency of 73% was higher than at any nearby school reporting that grade. ELA was another strength: 68% were proficient, about 19 points above the state and 20 above the district, and about 5 points above the nearby-school average. Math was more mixed: Goethe’s 54% proficiency was 16 points above the state and 15 above the district, but about 9 points below nearby schools’ average of 63%. Fifth grade was especially strong across subjects, while seventh-grade ELA and math were the school’s lowest grade-level results. Goethe’s 8% chronic absenteeism rate was below the district’s 23%, the state’s 18%, and all seven nearby LAUSD schools with same-year figures.

Goethe’s SchoolDigger standing has been broadly steady: its statewide percentile moved from 84 in 2017–18 to 85 in 2025–26, when it ranked 861 of 5,804 schools and earned 4 stars. One notable subgroup change is that SchoolDigger’s percentile measure of how well the school serves White students fell from 91 in 2017–18 to 77 in 2025–26, below the school’s overall 85th percentile. The supplied test results cover only one year, and Goethe’s latest student-teacher ratio, 18.2, and its 26% free/reduced lunch eligible figure are from 2017–18, so they cannot support current comparisons with nearby schools.

Open Quote I'm relieved that we've found this school. Our kids are excelling in their academics in ways I've never seen from them before and they're excited to go to school in the morning. The teachers are why we are here! I've never seen such dedicated and caring teachers. They really try to meet your child where they are and encourage them to keep moving up and trying their best by encouraging their strengths and coaching them for continued improvement. Close Quote

Open Quote We love this school! The teachers are incredible, the class sizes are small compared to neighborhood schools, the kids are taught 2 languages in K-2 with an addition of a 3rd language in 3-5. The school is also an authorized International Baccalaureate school which is why our family chose Goethe for our son. International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. Goethe embodies all of this! And they have an amazing parent community on top of it all! Close Quote

Open Quote This is a really good school. There are so many parents here who volunteer and participate in their kids academic and emotional development. The class size is amazing less than 25 kids per class and my child is thriving! A hidden gem that no one knows about for sure! Close Quote
