As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This charming neighborhood school, nestled within and surrounded by vibrant and growing communities, has won numerous awards from technology (LA App Challenge) to visual and performing arts (Bookmark, Art, Dance) & more. Focused on the whole child, the thoughtful curriculum includes TK/K-6 school-wide hands-on Science projects, Latin for all classes, technology in the classroom (PlanetBravo), STEAM Exhibition Nights, Play-Well LEGO, Chess Tutors and more. Stop by our school and you will see the children are delightful, happy and blossoming from the dedicated, caring, enthusiastic and happy teachers and staff, bolstered by passionate and committed parents and volunteers. The school is also on track to become an International Baccalaureate (IB) elementary school. Close Quote

Open Quote This neighborhood school is a gem! This is our second year at Short Avenue Elementary and my son is reading far above average in the first grade. We absolutely love the principal and the teachers who are all dedicated and fantastic at preparing the students to excel beyond elementary. I have been told that the teachers from the middle schools look forward to the students from Short Avenue Elementary because they end up being the leaders in their middle school classes. I am continually pleased to learn more great things about how the school is adding more enrichment for the students with a new Planet Bravo technology/coding program that just started this semester. I look forward to being more impressed with my son's exponential growth from this wonderful education at our lovely public elementary school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
