Summary

Crestview Elementary is a K-6 public school serving 373 students on Vandenberg Air Force Base within the Lompoc Unified School District, standing out as a high-performing school in its area.

Academically, Crestview significantly outperforms other schools in its district, with over 52% of students proficient in English and nearly 39% in math, which is well above the Lompoc Unified average. Its closest competitor within the district is Buena Vista Elementary. A major strength is its exceptionally low chronic absenteeism rate of 7.9%, which is less than half the district average and likely contributes to its strong results. While its statewide ranking has declined from historically higher positions to the 63rd percentile, it remains a top school locally, though nearby Pine Grove Elementary in a different district now ranks slightly higher.

The school shows notable variations in performance across different student groups and subjects, with particular strength in science and in serving Hispanic and economically disadvantaged students effectively. Compared to other Lompoc Unified schools like Leonora Fillmore Elementary or Miguelito Elementary, Crestview operates with a student population that has a lower rate of economic disadvantage. The extreme performance gap between Crestview and most other schools in its district highlights systemic challenges that Crestview appears to overcome, potentially benefiting from the unique stability of its military community.

Open Quote Crestview's test scores look very good, but I think it should be noted that this school has a limited number of second language learners and special education students compared to other schools in this district. The principal is notorious for quickly transferring children that have special needs out of his school; it is assumed by many that this is simply so that these children do not negatively affect the test scores of his school. If you have children with special needs, do not waste time dealing with this principal. You will waste your child's precious time. Close Quote
