Summary

Lake Los Angeles Elementary is a public K-8 school in Palmdale, California, serving 508 students as part of the Keppel Union Elementary School District. Despite higher spending per student and a lower student-teacher ratio than the state average, the school consistently ranks in the bottom 10-15% of California elementary schools academically.

Lake Los Angeles Elementary struggles with very low proficiency rates in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science, far below the state and district averages. The school also has high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 20.4% to 34.5% over the past few years. Additionally, a large majority of the student population, between 73.63% and 86.81%, are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage. Nearby schools within the Keppel Union Elementary School District and the Palmdale Elementary School District generally perform better academically, but they also face similar challenges with high rates of chronic absenteeism and economic disadvantage.

One notable exception is Los Amigos - Dual Immersion, a dual-language immersion school in the Palmdale Elementary School District, which stands out with significantly higher proficiency rates compared to the other schools in the area and the state averages. However, the overall academic performance of schools in the Keppel Union Elementary School District and the Palmdale Elementary School District remains a concern, with most schools struggling to meet state standards.

Open Quote I was a Special Ed teacher in Lake LA in 2014 and I cannot believe that this Principal is still there in 2021. She was my worst experience in the 30 years I’ve been a teacher in the private and public school systems. Sweet adorable kids, nice parents, and horrible leadership. Parents should investigate the place very carefully before sending their kids there. The school is far from reaching the average academic level. Moreover- it lacks compassion or open communication, and the wrong-doings in this place are mostly secretive, so if you are a common parent you will find it impossible to reveal what exactly is going on there! This Principal had done everything she could have to eliminate the severe section in the Special Ed program in her school, and managed the moderate section in an unprofessional way. IEPs were conducted in an unlawful manner and students were not treated right. She used to have her favorite teachers, who benefited plenty from being her “yes man” people, so if someone complained about these teachers’ shortcomings, the Principal never took care of the matter. Moreover- she used to promote and give special treatment to all those teachers who actually treated students in an unfair way just because they had never stood against her and always practiced full obedience. This Principal demanded a closed- mind and a limited view from teachers and used to send some teachers to spy after others and tell her what those teachers were talking about. She basically used every tool she could find in order to control the heart, mind, and actions of every employee in this school, and of course, any teacher or psychologist with some character or creativity ran away from this hole as far as they could. I am sure that even today, under her management, In this school good ideas are being demolished, innovative teachers are forced to leave, and mediocracy together with tyranny is being celebrated. This is very sad, especially because there is nobody in the district who would listen to you. Close Quote
