Summary

Luigi Aprea Elementary is a public K-5 school serving 722 students in the Gilroy Unified school district, consistently performing above district averages in a community with diverse educational options.

Academically, the school is a solid performer, scoring higher than both the district and state in English, math, and science, with a particularly strong lead in mathematics. Its statewide ranking places it above average, and it shows effective progress across grade levels. While its performance has fluctuated, it has recovered well from a pandemic-era dip. The school manages resources effectively, achieving these results with per-student spending that is moderate compared to some lower-performing schools like Eliot Elementary and Glen View Elementary. Its chronic absenteeism rate is also better than the district average and several nearby schools.

Compared to other local schools, Luigi Aprea's performance is similar to Las Animas Elementary but trails the high-performing charter school Gilroy Prep (a Navigator School). The school's effectiveness can vary for different student groups from year to year, which is an area for potential growth. Overall, it represents a reliable and consistently above-average choice within the public school system.

Open Quote We moved to this school area from Fremont. This school is a great school and better than the school in Fremont in some aspects. Teachers communicate effectively. We get emails from teachers to keep us updated on what is going on in the class. Parent involvement is great. Teachers make extra effort. School campus is very nice and enclosed. I feel my kids are very safe in the school. School even has uniform for kids. I liked the concept of having uniform for kids. Over all this school is great and I think we'll see the API scores improve further over the years. Close Quote
