Summary

Del Dios Academy of Arts and Sciences is a public middle school serving 788 students in grades 6-8 within the Escondido Union School District, which serves a community with significant economic need.

The school faces considerable academic challenges, with proficiency rates in English (30%), Math (22%), and Science (17%) consistently below state averages, and it ranks in the bottom third of California middle schools. A major concern is chronic student absenteeism, which, while improved from previous years, remains high at 26%. The school serves a population where over 90% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, a level of economic need similar to other district schools like Hidden Valley Middle and Mission Middle. Notably, a standout in the same district is Quantum Academy, which achieves much higher test scores despite having a similar student profile, suggesting different educational models can yield different results.

When compared to middle schools in neighboring, wealthier districts like Poway Unified and San Marcos Unified, the performance gap widens further; for example, Oak Valley Middle in Poway has dramatically higher test scores. Within its own district, Del Dios's academic performance places it in the middle to lower tier among traditional middle schools, with particular struggles in science. The school's statewide ranking has declined in recent years, a trend seen across several Escondido Union schools.

Open Quote Half the staff does not seem to care about student success or even safety. Bullying is rampant. Watched my child go from an A-B student to failing and could not get the staff to step up to the plate to stop the bullying. Close Quote

Open Quote I recommend to all parents to NOT put their child in this school. I hate this school very much, and some teachers there are just awful. This school is not-disciplined and has very low CST test scores. I would definitely rate this school 1 star, this is the rating it deserves.I wish this school never existed. There are many fights, low culture, and poor manners from many students on campus. Half of the teachers should not be teachers there at all. This school definently disappoints me. Close Quote
