Summary

Louis E. Stocklmeir Elementary is a large, highly-rated K-5 public school serving 840 students in Sunnyvale, California, as part of the prestigious Cupertino Union School District.

Academically, Stocklmeir is a strong school that consistently outperforms state averages, though it typically scores a bit below the very high average for its own district. It shows particular strengths in supporting English Language Learners and students in Special Education, who perform exceptionally well here. The school is notably larger than many nearby elementary schools, which can affect its resources and community feel, and it operates with a slightly higher student-to-teacher ratio than some neighbors like West Valley Elementary or Cumberland Elementary. While its statewide ranking has gradually declined from its peak a decade ago, it maintains a solid 5-star rating.

When compared to other schools, Stocklmeir holds a middle position within Cupertino Union. It outperforms a close neighbor like Chester W. Nimitz Elementary but doesn't reach the extraordinary academic heights of a top-tier district school like William Faria Elementary. The school achieves its good results with relatively efficient spending per student, especially when compared to schools in the Santa Clara Unified district. For families, Stocklmeir offers the advantages of a top district with a diverse community and proven support for students with specialized learning needs.

Open Quote This school is the ONLY school in the Cupertino Union School District with a "No Homework" policy. Teacher's love it, since it means they don't have to grade homework, but it is a horrible policy as far as actually helping the students grow, learn, and develop good long-term study habits.

The schools high test scores are most likely a result of the demographics (having a lot of parents who take the time and effort to teach their kids at home to make up for what is NOT taking place in the classrooms), rather than anything this school does. Close Quote
