Open Quote We have had a great experience at Sherwood, for both my kids from kindergarten through 5th grade. The only reason we left the school was because we moved out of the area, otherwise we would have stayed through middle school too. The teachers are outstanding and it's really something to observe them facilitate the magic of the Montessori method where kids might all be doing their own thing during the "work period" and each kid is busy and focused and learning by doing. I love the emphasis on collaboration, nonviolence, inclusivity, and nurturing the whole child. My kids have been solidly on-grade-level or above average so we haven't used the intervention services for kids who are struggling but my understanding is that they've got great staff and provide that support in a way that complements the Montessori curriculum. I love the cooking and gardening program and the kinds of field trips my kids have experienced. The multi-age classrooms give older kids a chance to be mentors to younger kids and learn by teaching. Overall I feel great about the experience we've had at this school and I would strongly recommend it to friends. The school recently moved to a different campus (in 2016) and I wasn't wild about the new location at first but ultimately it's better than the old location because the classrooms are bigger, the playground and playing fields are huge, and it seems to be working fine having a public charter school co-located on a district campus. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
