Summary

Teague Elementary is a K-6 public school serving 551 students in the Central Unified district of Fresno, CA, which faces significant academic and attendance challenges.

Academically, the school's test scores are below both district and state averages, though it has shown recent improvement, moving from the 13th to the 29th percentile statewide over two years. A major concern is chronic absenteeism, with 31.1% of students missing too much school, a rate much higher than nearby schools like Herndon-Barstow Elementary (12.2%) and River Bluff Elementary (16.7%). This high absenteeism is closely linked to its academic struggles, as performance has improved as attendance has gotten better. The school serves a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, and while it receives more funding per student than some higher-performing schools in its own district, it gets far less than similar schools in neighboring Fresno Unified.

Despite overall low rankings, there are some positive signs and variations. The school has demonstrated stronger academic outcomes for some student groups in the past, indicating it has effective practices that could be expanded. Performance also varies greatly by grade level, suggesting differences in teaching or curriculum alignment. Located near higher-performing schools like Herndon-Barstow Elementary, the data suggests that targeted efforts to improve attendance and share successful teaching methods could help Teague continue its recent upward trajectory.

Open Quote I wouldnt have my kids going to any other school! Teague is a wonderful school that has great teachers, programs, activities, and most importantly students. We are not just an elementary school but a family that supports one another. We might be one of the oldest schools in our district but to me that just goes to say that if its been around this long then Teague is doing something right! Close Quote
