Carlsbad Village Academy is a small high school in Carlsbad, in the coastal North County area of San Diego County, serving 38 students in grades 10–12 as part of Carlsbad Unified. Its proficiency rates are below state and district results in all three tested subjects, but the most striking concern is attendance: chronic absenteeism was 73% in 2025–26, compared with 13% in the district and 18% statewide.

ELA is the school’s relative strength, though it still trails comparison schools: in 2025–26, 45% of students were proficient in ELA, versus 49% statewide and 72% in the district. This school changed my Grandson’s whole trajectory in regards to his education. He had always struggled in school. They accepted him just the way he is. They built his self confidence to a level where he believes he is capable. They know each and every student and show them respect. My Grandson is getting A’s and B’s for the first time in his life. He has done a 180 in regards to his grades and attitude. I’m grateful that he is able to go there. They do a great job. Close Quote
