Washington Union Elementary

Three schools in Washington Union Elementary serve grades K–8 and 756 students: Toro Park Elementary (K–3), Washington Elementary (grades 4–5), and San Benancio Middle (grades 6–8). In 2025–26, every school scored above the state in each reported subject. The clearest area-wide strength is math: the schools’ equal-weight average was 62% proficient, 24 points above the state’s 38%, a larger advantage than in ELA or science.

Leaders vary by subject. San Benancio Middle led all-grades ELA at 62%, about 5 points above Toro Park Elementary’s 56%; its result was 12 points above the state. Toro Park Elementary led math at 66%, while San Benancio Middle was lowest at 57%, an 8-point spread. In science, San Benancio Middle scored 54%, 3 points above Washington Elementary. Washington also had the lowest chronic absenteeism: 1%, compared with 3% at Toro Park, 6% at San Benancio, and 18% statewide.

Recent ELA results are a concern: scores fell by 10 points at Toro Park, 6 at San Benancio, and 11 at Washington from 2024–25 to 2025–26; the average lead over the state narrowed from 19 points to 10. Math changed unevenly: Toro Park fell 12 points, while San Benancio and Washington each gained 3. Science improved by 4 points at San Benancio and 6 at Washington. SchoolDigger ranks San Benancio at the 85th percentile and Washington at the 81st; both percentiles have edged down from 2023–24. Ratios range from 21.3 students per teacher at Toro Park to 25.6 at Washington. Free/reduced lunch eligible shares in 2024–25 were 10% at Toro Park, 10% at San Benancio, and 12% at Washington. Because the schools serve different grades, all-grades results are not direct like-for-like comparisons; science results are available for only two schools.
