Summary:
Walnut Creek Elementary includes seven schools: six elementary schools and one middle school, with grades K–5 at most elementary schools, grades 6–8 at Walnut Creek Intermediate, and K–8 at Tice Creek. In 2025–2026, the schools’ average scores were above state results in English, math, and science, but performance varied considerably from school to school. The most important takeaway is that the district’s strong overall results do not mean every school has the same strengths.
Tice Creek led in English (83%) and math (78%), while Buena Vista Elementary led in science (74%). Those leaders were ahead of the next-highest school by 9 points in English, 5 in math, and 7 in science. At the other end, Indian Valley Elementary had the lowest all-grades English and math scores (65% and 64%), and Murwood Elementary had the lowest science score (52%); each was still above the state result in its subject. The top-to-bottom gaps were 19 points in English, 14 in math, and 23 in science. Grade-level results add useful context: Tice Creek was especially strong in grades 7–8, but Walnut Creek Intermediate scored higher in grade 6 English and math. All-grades comparisons should be read with grade spans in mind.
From 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, the average school score rose about 2 points in English, was nearly flat in math, and increased 7 points in science. State results rose less in English and science, but more in math; Murwood Elementary was the only school whose scores fell in all three subjects. SchoolDigger ranks the district 65th of 968 California districts, in the 93rd percentile with five stars. The reported measure for all schools is free/reduced lunch eligible for school year 2024–2025; figures range from 8% at Tice Creek to 22% at Murwood Elementary. Ratios range from 21.3 students per teacher at Tice Creek to 25.1 at Parkmead Elementary; these are context, not explanations for score differences.
