The 17 high schools in Sweetwater Union High serve mostly grades 9–12, while five serve grades 7–12. Across schools with reported results, average proficiency was 51% in ELA, 25% in math and 33% in science, compared with state rates of 49%, 38% and 36%. The clearest group-wide concern is math: the school average was 14 percentage points below the state rate.

Recent progress is mixed: average science results rose 6 percentage points from the prior year, while math rose 1 point and ELA fell 1 point. Some schools moved differently by subject: Launch Virtual Academy improved 12 points in math but fell 2 points in ELA; its math score was 41%, despite 70% chronic absenteeism and a 75% graduation rate. Income figures are context, not explanations: in 2024–25, free/reduced lunch eligible rates were 77% at Mar Vista Senior High and 89% at Sweetwater High, while their ELA results were 62% and 47%.
