San Ysidro High serves 1,941 students in grades 9–12 in San Diego’s South Bay, within the Sweetwater Union High district. Its latest results show improvement over 2022–23, but students remain behind state and district proficiency levels in every tested subject. In 2025–26, proficiency was 44% in English language arts (ELA), 25% in math and 22% in science. The central concern is that math and science are especially far below state results, while no tested subject meets the state or district level.

ELA is the school’s strongest subject against the state, while science is the clearest weakness compared with nearby traditional high schools. The school was 5 percentage points below the state and 8 below the district in ELA; its science results were 14 points below both the state and district. Among five nearby traditional high schools, the average was 61% in ELA and 34% in science—16 and 11 points above San Ysidro, respectively.
