Summary:
In Snowline Joint Unified, three high schools serve grades 9–12 or, at Eagle Summit, grades 6–12; enrollment ranges from 24 students to 2,163. In 2025–26, the schools’ average proficiency was 26% in English language arts (ELA), 9% in math and 21% in science, compared with state results of 49%, 38% and 36%, respectively; the science average includes only two schools. The most important takeaway is that, despite one school’s comparatively strong results, the group average fell below the state in every subject.
Serrano High led in all three subjects, with 50% proficient in ELA, 19% in math and 32% in science. Its ELA result was just above the state’s 49%, while math was 20 percentage points below the state and science was 4 points below. At the other end, Eagle Summit Community Day had the lowest ELA result, 6%; Chaparral High had the lowest math and science results, 2% and 10%. Serrano’s ELA result was 36 points above the other schools’ average, and its math result was 15 points above their average. Eagle Summit’s science and Grade 11 results are suppressed, and its all-grade results are not a like-for-like comparison with the two schools serving only grades 9–12.
Results improved from 2024–25 to 2025–26: the schools’ average rose 6 percentage points in ELA and 2 in math, while the comparable science average rose 8 points; the gaps with the state narrowed, but remained substantial. Attendance is a concern: chronic absenteeism was 25% at Serrano, 58% at Chaparral and 81% at Eagle Summit, versus 18% statewide. In 2024–25, free/reduced lunch eligible figures were 58% at Serrano, 84% at Chaparral and 79% at Eagle Summit. Serrano also had the highest student–teacher ratio (21.7), compared with 14.1 at Chaparral and 7.9 at Eagle Summit; these figures are context, not explanations for achievement. SchoolDigger rankings rebounded from 2024–25 to 2025–26: Serrano rose from the 43rd to the 48th percentile and Chaparral from the 9th to the 15th.
