High Schools in Siskiyou Union High

Four high schools in Siskiyou Union High serve grades 9–12, with 476 students combined: Mount Shasta High enrolls 241, Weed High 187, Happy Camp High 41, and McCloud High 7. Among the two schools with reported 2025–2026 scores, ELA is the strongest area overall: their average was 57%, compared with 49% statewide. Math is the clearest shared concern: their average was 19%, versus 38% statewide. The most important takeaway is that ELA results are comparatively stronger, but math proficiency is substantially below the state level.

There is no single school that leads in every subject. Weed High had the highest reported ELA result at 60%, 7 points above Mount Shasta High at 54%; it was also 11 points above the state. But Mount Shasta High led in math and science, scoring 26% and 37%, compared with Weed’s 12% and 17%. That is a 14-point gap in math and a 19-point gap in science. Happy Camp High had the highest reported chronic absenteeism, at 43%, compared with 29% at Mount Shasta and 35% at Weed; its test results, like McCloud High’s, are suppressed and cannot be ranked. McCloud is the smallest school and had a 3.5 student-teacher ratio.

Both schools with year-over-year test data improved in ELA and math: Mount Shasta rose 9 points in ELA and 10 in math, while Weed rose 20 points in ELA and 3 in math. Science is an exception: Mount Shasta fell 1 point, and Weed has no prior-year science result in the data. SchoolDigger’s district ranking is 494 out of 968, at the 49th percentile with 2 stars; its school percentiles also rebounded from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026 for Mount Shasta (51st to 58th) and Weed (31st to 39th), but remained below their 2023–2024 levels. Both schools reported a 14.5 student-teacher ratio in 2024–2025. Their free/reduced lunch eligible figures for school year 2024–2025 were 33% at Mount Shasta and 60% at Weed; Happy Camp High reported 90% for that year. These figures provide context, not an explanation for differences in results.
