Summary:

The four public high schools in Siskiyou Union High serve grades 9–12, with enrollments ranging from 7 to 241 students. The state suppressed current proficiency results for Happy Camp High and McCloud High, so score comparisons cover only Mount Shasta High and Weed High. Both reported schools are below the state in math: their average is 19% proficient, compared with 38% statewide, a 20-percentage-point gap—the clearest shared concern in the area’s available results.

The two schools stand out in different subjects: Mount Shasta leads in math at 26% and science at 37%, respectively 14 and 19 percentage points above Weed; Weed leads in ELA, 60% to 54%. Both schools are above the state’s all-grades ELA rate, but Weed is well below the state in science. Attendance is another concern: chronic absenteeism is 29% at Mount Shasta, 35% at Weed and 43% at Happy Camp, versus 18% statewide.

Results improved year over year at Mount Shasta and Weed in ELA and math: their average ELA proficiency rose 15 percentage points and math rose 6 points from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, although the math average remains 20 points below the state. SchoolDigger gives Mount Shasta a 58th-percentile ranking and 3 stars, compared with Weed’s 39th percentile and 2 stars. Both had a 14.5 student–teacher ratio in 2024–2025, but their reported free/reduced lunch eligible measures differed: 33% at Mount Shasta and 60% at Weed that year. These figures offer context, not an explanation for their different subject results.
