Summary:
Sebastopol Union Elementary has two schools serving kindergarten through grade 8: Park Side Elementary (K–4) and Brook Haven Middle (grades 5–8). Both schools are above the state in all-grades ELA results, but their math results tell a very different story. The most important difference is math: in 2025–2026, Park Side outscored Brook Haven by 26 percentage points, with Park Side above and Brook Haven below the state.
Park Side stands out for stronger results across both core subjects: 63% were proficient in ELA and 58% in math, compared with state results of 49% and 38%. Brook Haven is a more mixed picture: 55% were proficient in ELA, above the state, but 32% in math, below it. Its grade 8 math result was especially low—15 points below the grade-level state result—while grade 5 math was 3 points above the state. ELA was above the state in every listed grade at both schools; Park Side’s largest listed advantage was in grade 4, at 23 points. Because the schools serve different grades, their all-grades results are not comparisons of the same grade levels.
Results improved in several areas from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026: Park Side rose by about 2 points in both ELA and math, while Brook Haven gained about 2 points in math but edged down in ELA. Brook Haven’s science score rose about 1 point, yet it moved from above the state to just below it as the state result increased more. SchoolDigger’s statewide ranking rose for Park Side, from the 73rd percentile in 2023–2024 to the 79th in 2025–2026, while Brook Haven’s fell from the 72nd to the 60th. One additional difference for parents to note is chronic absenteeism: 10% at Park Side versus 88% at Brook Haven in 2025–2026, compared with 18% statewide. In 2024–2025, free/reduced lunch eligible students made up 46% at Park Side and 43% at Brook Haven; these figures are context, not an explanation for school results.
