Summary:
Three K–5 elementary schools—Argonaut Elementary, Saratoga Elementary and Foothill Elementary—serve families in Saratoga Union Elementary. All three were above state proficiency in ELA, math and science in 2025–2026, but results differ substantially among local schools: the largest gap between schools was 15 points in ELA. The main takeaway is that strong state comparisons do not mean the three schools perform at the same level.
Argonaut led in math, at 93%, and science, at 83%; those results were each 7 points above the other two schools’ average. Saratoga led in ELA, scoring 89%—8 points above the other two schools’ average—and had the lowest chronic absenteeism rate, 3%. Foothill had the lowest all-grades results: 73% in ELA, 80% in math and 72% in science, trailing the other schools’ average by 15, 12 and 10 points, respectively. Still, its grade 3 math result was 93%, close to the other schools’ 95% average.
Average results rose from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026 in all three subjects, but the schools gained ground on the state only in ELA: the group’s average ELA proficiency rose 1 point, while math rose 1 point and science 2 points as the state improved faster in those subjects. Saratoga improved in all three subjects; Foothill dipped in ELA and math. SchoolDigger rates all three schools five stars; its statewide rankings moved from 48th to 23rd for Saratoga, 8th to 29th for Argonaut, and 114th to 490th for Foothill. In 2024–2025, student-teacher ratios were 22.9 at Argonaut, 22.8 at Saratoga and 18.5 at Foothill; free/reduced lunch eligible measures that year were 3%, 3% and 9%, respectively. These are school profile differences, not explanations for achievement.
