Summary:

San Lorenzo Unified has four high schools: Arroyo High, San Lorenzo High, East Bay Arts High, and Royal Sunset (Continuation). Three serve grades 9–12; Royal Sunset serves grades 7–12 and is a continuation school. In 2025–26 11th-grade results, the four-school averages were 27% proficient in ELA, 15% in math, and 18% in science, compared with state results of 57%, 32%, and 38%. The most important finding is that results differ substantially by school, yet even the leading school in this group fell below the state in all three subjects.

Arroyo High led the group in all three subjects, with 47% proficiency in ELA, 27% in math, and 34% in science; it was also 97% graduation and 15% chronic absenteeism. At the other end, Royal Sunset (Continuation) recorded 0% in ELA, 5% in math, and 8% in science, as well as 56% graduation and 68% chronic absenteeism. That makes the top-to-bottom ELA gap 47 percentage points and the science gap 26 points; math was tied at the bottom between Royal Sunset and San Lorenzo High. East Bay Arts High is a notable alternative: it ranked second in ELA and math and reported 100% graduation, but its 17% science proficiency was well below Arroyo’s. San Lorenzo High recorded 23% in ELA, 5% in math, and 15% in science.

Recent test trends were mixed: from 2024–25 to 2025–26, the all-grade school average fell 7 percentage points in ELA, rose 4 points in math, and increased 1 point in science. The average gap with the state widened in ELA and science but narrowed by 3 points in math; school-level changes varied, so the math improvement did not apply to every school. SchoolDigger’s percentile standing from 2023–24 to 2025–26 fell from 71st to 53rd for Arroyo and rose from 18th to 36th for East Bay Arts; San Lorenzo moved from 21st to 19th, while Royal Sunset rose from 3rd to 8th. For context, all four reported free/reduced lunch eligible figures for 2024–25: 65% at Arroyo, 82% at San Lorenzo, 76% at East Bay Arts, and 63% at Royal Sunset. Arroyo had the highest student-teacher ratio, 24.6, while East Bay Arts was at 14.9 and Royal Sunset at 12.6; these contrasts describe the schools but do not explain their results.
