Summary:

The seven schools in Rim of the World Unified—three elementary schools, one middle school, two high schools and one alternative school—enroll 2,874 students across elementary through high-school grades. Their 2025–2026 school-level averages were 34% in ELA, 25% in math and 30% in science, compared with statewide rates of 49%, 38% and 36%. The main takeaway is that average proficiency was below the state rate in all three subjects, with the largest gap in ELA.

Results vary substantially by school. Rim of the World High led ELA at 49%, just 1 point below the state rate; Rim Virtual Academy led math at 43% and science at 39%, exceeding state rates by 5 and 3 points. At the other end, Mountain High recorded 9% in ELA, 0% in math and 19% in science. Among elementary schools, Charles Hoffman Elementary led overall in ELA and math; its grade 3 ELA and math rates were 48% and 57%, above state rates of 44% and 47%, and its grade 4 ELA rate was 50%, above the state’s 46%.

Average math and science results improved from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026 by 4 and 9 percentage points, while ELA fell 6 points; these gains were not shared by every school. Rim Virtual Academy’s math rose 32 points and science 24, while Hoffman’s math and science each fell 9 and 5 points. SchoolDigger ranked Hoffman at the 54th statewide percentile, Rim of the World High at the 51st and Mountain High at the 15th in 2025–2026. For context, all seven schools reported free/reduced lunch eligible (FRL), school year 2024–2025; shares ranged from 54% at Lake Arrowhead to 68% at Mountain High. Mountain High’s student-teacher ratio was 14.8, compared with 19.6 at Rim of the World High. Schools serve different grades, and results at smaller schools may be less stable.
