Summary:
Orcutt Union Elementary includes 10 schools serving kindergarten through grade 12: seven elementary schools, two middle schools and one alternative school, with grade spans that differ across campuses. In 2025–2026, average results across the schools were about 44% in English Language Arts (ELA), 37% in mathematics and 37% in science, compared with state results of 49%, 38% and 36%. The clearest overall finding is that results vary widely, with school averages below the state in ELA and math but slightly above it in science.
Orcutt Academy Charter led in ELA at 63% and science at 55%, while Pine Grove Elementary led in math at 54%. Orcutt Junior High also exceeded state results in all three subjects. At the lower end, Olga L. Reed Elementary had the lowest ELA score among schools other than Independent Study, at 28%; Orcutt School for Independent Study had the lowest math score, at 12%; and Ralph Dunlap Elementary had the lowest science score, at 23%. The gap between highest and lowest schools was 34 points in ELA, 42 in math and 31 in science.
Over the two most recent years, science improved most: the average school score rose 5 points, and science results increased at eight of the 10 schools. Average ELA and math results were roughly flat, while state results rose in both subjects. SchoolDigger rankings also moved up from 2023–2024 to 2025–2026 at Orcutt Junior High (66th to 74th percentile), Lakeview Junior High (57th to 66th) and Alice Shaw Elementary (41st to 47th). Similar school profiles can have different results: Pine Grove and Dunlap have student-teacher ratios of 25.8 and 26.4, and their 2024–2025 free/reduced lunch eligible shares were 59% and 56%, while Pine Grove scored higher in all three subjects. Independent Study has a lower ratio of 21.7 but only 44 students; because grade spans differ and its enrollment is small, its results are less directly comparable with those of larger schools.
