Summary:
Ocean View has four schools serving 2,075 students: three elementary schools for kindergarten through grade 5 and one junior high for grades 6–8. Across the four schools, the average reported proficiency was 31% in ELA, 24% in math and 18% in science, compared with state results of 49%, 38% and 36%, respectively. Every school was below the state result in all three subjects, making broad gaps from the state the most important area-wide finding.
Laguna Vista Elementary had the strongest all-grades ELA and math results, at 35% and 29%; those were 11 points and 11 points above the lowest school results in those subjects. Tierra Vista Elementary was lowest in ELA at 24% and science at 14%, while Ocean View Junior High had the lowest math result, 18%, and the highest science result, 23%. Grade-level results reveal a notable exception: Mar Vista Elementary scored 48% in grade 3 math, 1 point above the state result. Since the schools serve different grades, their all-grades figures are not direct same-grade comparisons.
ELA improved at all four schools from 2024–25 to 2025–26, and the average gap from the state narrowed by 1 point; science moved the other way, with the area average falling 4 points as the state result rose, widening the average gap by 8 points. SchoolDigger ranks Laguna Vista highest among these schools, at the 30th percentile with two stars, followed by Mar Vista at the 28th percentile, Ocean View Junior High at the 24th and Tierra Vista at the 12th. The elementary schools’ student-teacher ratios range from 20.0 to 23.8. Each reports free/reduced lunch eligible figures for 2024–25: 71% at Tierra Vista, 82% at Mar Vista and 72% at Laguna Vista; these are context, not an explanation for achievement differences.
