Summary:
Newhall has 10 elementary schools serving kindergarten through sixth grade, with 6,020 students overall and enrollments ranging from 388 to 851. In 2025–2026, the schools’ average proficiency was 66% in English language arts (ELA), 60% in math and 50% in science, compared with state averages of 49%, 38% and 36%. The most important finding is how different results are from school to school: Stevenson Ranch Elementary led in all three subjects, while Newhall Elementary had the lowest scores and fell below the state in every subject.
Stevenson Ranch Elementary is the clearest all-around standout, with 91% proficient in ELA, 85% in math and 71% in science. It led the next-highest school by 9 points in ELA, 10 in math and 1 in science; Oak Hills Elementary was second in all three. Pico Canyon Elementary also stands out, ranking second in math and scoring well in ELA and science. SchoolDigger ranked Stevenson Ranch 41st of 5,804 California elementary schools, at the 99th percentile. At the other end, Newhall scored 34% in ELA, 21% in math and 22% in science—15, 17 and 14 points below the state, respectively. Overall, eight of the 10 schools exceeded the state in ELA and math, and nine did so in science.
Recent results were mixed rather than uniformly improving. From 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, the schools’ average ELA score changed little, math dipped slightly, and science fell by 5 points even as the state’s science average rose. Peachland Avenue Elementary had the largest gains in ELA and math, up 6 and 11 points, but its science score dropped 9 points; its SchoolDigger percentile ranking nevertheless rose from 71 to 78 between 2023–2024 and 2025–2026. For context, the schools report free/reduced lunch eligible figures for 2024–2025, ranging from 22% at Stevenson Ranch to 94% at Newhall; these are observations, not explanations for scores. Student-teacher ratios ranged from 21.5 at Wiley Canyon Elementary to 28.2 at Stevenson Ranch, so a lower ratio alone does not identify the strongest results. Group averages are simple averages across schools, not weighted by enrollment.
