Summary:

National Elementary has 10 schools serving kindergarten through grade 6. In 2025–2026, the schools’ unweighted averages were 36% proficient in ELA, 28% in math and 28% in science, compared with 49%, 38% and 36% statewide. Most importantly, average results trail California in all three subjects, even though science has the widest range between schools.

Ira Harbison and Rancho de la Nacion stand out across subjects. Ira leads ELA at 46% and math at 38%, matching the state in math; its 47% in science is second in the group. Rancho leads science at 48% and is close behind in ELA and math, with 44% and 38%. At the other end, El Toyon Elementary has the lowest ELA result at 25%, Lincoln Acres the lowest math result at 20%, and John A. Otis Elementary the lowest science result at 15%. School-to-school ranges are 20 points in ELA, 19 in math and 33 in science. Grade-level results can tell a different story: Central leads grade 6 ELA at 57%, above the state’s 48%, despite its below-state all-grades result.

Recent test-score trends are mixed: the group’s ELA average rose by 1 point and science by 7 points from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, while math barely changed as the state improved, widening the math gap by about 1 point. SchoolDigger percentile rankings rose most for Olivewood (16th to 36th) and for Ira and Rancho (up 14 points each); these are ranking changes, not proficiency gains. Attendance also differs: Ira’s chronic absenteeism is 11%, while Rancho’s is 29%, despite strong results at both schools. The reported free/reduced lunch eligible shares for 2024–2025 range from 77% at Ira to 91% at Central Elementary; these figures provide context, not an explanation for test results.
