Summary:
Mammoth Unified has four schools serving kindergarten through grade 12: Mammoth Elementary (K–5), Mammoth Middle (6–8), Mammoth High (9–12), and Sierra High (Continuation) (10–12). The clearest area-wide strength is science: the three schools with scores averaged 39%, compared with 36% statewide; their averages were below California in ELA (46% versus 49%) and math (36% versus 38%). Results vary substantially by school and subject, so no one school leads across the board.
Mammoth High stands out in ELA (59%), 17 points ahead of Mammoth Middle, and in science (41%), though its math score is lowest at 23%—16 points below Mammoth Elementary. Middle leads in math at 45%, 6 points above Elementary, and exceeds the state in all three subjects. Elementary’s ELA score is the lowest among the three (38%), while its math and science scores are slightly above state results. The contrast is especially sharp at High: in 11th grade, ELA was 1 point above the state, while math was 9 points below.
Recent averages show math improving most: up 4 points from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, while ELA fell 1 point and science rose 1 point. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile rankings changed unevenly: Elementary rose from 48th to 50th, Middle slipped from 65th to 62nd, and High from 69th to 62nd. Attendance is another important difference: chronic absenteeism was 19% at Elementary, 21% at Middle, 32% at High, and 83% at Sierra. As context, 2024–2025 free/reduced lunch eligibility ranged from 33% at Sierra to 47% at Middle; student-teacher ratios ranged from 9.0 at Sierra to 18.7 at Elementary. No test-score figures are supplied for Sierra, whose enrollment is nine.
