Summary:
The seven Loomis Union Elementary schools all serve K–8 and enroll 2,826 students, or about 404 per school on average. In 2025–2026, the schools’ average proficiency was 70% in ELA, 64% in math and 60% in science, compared with state results of 49%, 38% and 36%. That’s an advantage of 21 points in ELA, 26 in math and 24 in science. Only three schools in each subject were above the district result, however. The clearest area-wide finding is that all seven schools scored above the state in all three subjects.
Different schools lead in different subjects. Penryn Elementary led ELA at 80%, 19 points above the lowest result, at H. Clarke Powers Elementary (61%). Loomis Basin Charter led math at 76%, 19 points above Ophir STEAM Academy (57%). In science, Placer Elementary led at 70%, 25 points above Loomis Elementary (45%). Loomis Basin and Penryn each have five stars from SchoolDigger; Ophir has three.
Recent changes were mixed: the seven-school average fell by about 1 point in ELA, rose by about 1 in math and gained 5 in science from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026. Franklin Elementary gained 6 points in ELA, while Ophir’s science result fell by 9. SchoolDigger’s latest statewide percentile is 91 for Penryn, up from 84 in 2023–2024, and 65 for Ophir, down from 90. Grade-level results may also matter: Ophir’s math proficiency was stronger in grades 6–8 than grades 3–5, while Loomis showed stronger ELA in grades 3–4 than grades 6–8. For context, 2024–2025 free/reduced lunch eligible shares ranged from 7% at Placer to 21% at Loomis; student–teacher ratios ranged from 19.2 at Ophir to 25.1 at Placer.
