Summary:
Galt Joint Union Elementary has seven schools: six elementary schools serving kindergarten through grade 6 (including kindergarten-only Fairsite Elementary) and one middle school serving grades 7–8. Five K–6 schools have 2025–26 test results; Fairsite has none, so its academic results cannot be compared here. Across those five schools, average results were above the state in English language arts and math, but below it in science—the clearest area-wide academic concern.
River Oaks Elementary led the K–6 schools in all three subjects, with 58% in English language arts, 50% in math and 41% in science. Those results were about 8, 8 and 12 percentage points above the other four schools’ averages, respectively. Valley Oaks Elementary was lowest in each subject: 43% in English language arts, 35% in math and 14% in science—about 10, 11 and 21 points below the other four schools’ averages. The science difference between the two schools was especially pronounced. Robert L. McCaffrey Middle has a different profile: its English language arts and science results were above the state, while its math result was below.
K–6 school averages rose by less than 1 percentage point in each subject from 2024–25 to 2025–26, while state results rose more, especially in science; the group’s science average went from 2 points below the state to 5 points below. Individual trends varied: River Oaks improved in all three subjects, while Marengo Ranch Elementary gained 8 points in science but fell 6 in English language arts and 3 in math. SchoolDigger placed River Oaks at the 73rd statewide percentile and Valley Oaks at the 45th. The tested K–6 schools’ student-teacher ratios ranged from 21.0 to 23.5. Their free/reduced lunch eligible figures for 2024–25 ranged from 50% at Marengo Ranch to 69% at Valley Oaks; Lake Canyon Elementary and Vernon E. Greer Elementary also show that results differ across schools, with Lake Canyon’s math above the state and Greer leading the group in sixth-grade math.
