High Schools in Clovis Unified

Clovis Unified has seven high schools: five comprehensive schools serving grades 9–12, Gateway High, a continuation school, and Clovis Community Day Secondary, which serves grades 7–12. In 2025–2026, the five comprehensive schools averaged 84% proficient in English language arts (ELA), 53% in math, and 58% in science, compared with California averages of 49%, 38%, and 36%. The key finding is that the strong comprehensive-school averages conceal a sharp divide: Gateway and Community Day have much lower reported results.

Clovis North High leads the comprehensive schools—and all seven schools—in each subject, with 94% proficiency in ELA, 68% in math, and 72% in science. It is ahead of runner-up Buchanan High by 4, 12, and 10 percentage points, respectively; Buchanan’s scores are 90%, 56%, and 62%. At the other end, Community Day has the lowest reported results: 8% in ELA, 0% in math, and 8% in science. Gateway is also well below the comprehensive schools, at 32%, 4%, and 11%. Outcomes beyond test scores differ too: comprehensive-school graduation rates are 95%–98%, while Gateway reports 75%.

Recent results rose overall at the comprehensive schools, especially in science: from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, their averages increased by 3 percentage points in ELA, 1 point in math, and 5 points in science. However, Clovis West High declined by 4 points in both math and science, while Clovis East High gained 10 points in math. School context varies as well: comprehensive-school student-teacher ratios range from 19.6 at Clovis High to 23.5 at East, but North leads academically with a ratio of 22. All five comprehensive schools report free/reduced lunch eligible figures for 2024–2025, ranging from 28% at North to 52% at East; these figures describe school context and do not explain results. Community Day serves younger grades than the comprehensive schools, and Gateway is a continuation school, so comparisons across all seven schools have limits.
