Summary:

The six schools in Brawley Elementary include four K–5 elementary schools and two middle schools serving grades 6–8. In 2025–26, the six-school averages were 34% in ELA, 24% in math and 19% in science, compared with state rates of 49%, 38% and 36%, respectively. The average shortfalls were 15 percentage points in ELA, 15 in math and 17 in science. The most important finding is that every school’s all-grade result was below the state rate in every reported subject.

Myron D. Witter Elementary led the elementary schools in all three subjects, with 33% in ELA, 32% in math and 25% in science. Among the middle schools, Padilla-Pace Middle stood out in ELA at 47%, about 9 points above Barbara Worth Junior High and 3 points below the state rate. At the lower end, J. W. Oakley Elementary had the lowest all-grade ELA and math results, at 27% and 17%; Miguel Hidalgo Elementary had the lowest science result, at 13%. Across all six schools, the top-to-bottom spreads were 20 points in ELA, 15 in math and 12 in science.

Results generally weakened from 2024–25 to 2025–26: the average ELA rate fell 4 points and math fell 3, while science rose 2 points across the five schools with figures for both years; that science average excludes Padilla-Pace, which has no prior-year figure provided. The science gain did not close the gap with the state. SchoolDigger’s rankings also shifted: from 2023–24 to 2025–26, Miguel Hidalgo fell 15 percentile points, while Witter and Oakley each fell 10; Padilla-Pace ranked at the 42nd percentile in 2025–26, but has no trend in the supplied data. All schools reported free/reduced lunch eligible figures for 2024–25, ranging from 75% at Witter to 90% at Miguel Hidalgo; these are context, not an explanation of results. Student–teacher ratios ranged from 19.8 at Oakley to 23.1 at Witter, and chronic absenteeism was higher than the state’s 18% at every school, averaging 25% across the group. Elementary and middle schools serve different grades, so comparisons across those spans are broad.
