Summary:
The Belmont-Redwood Shores Elementary area includes seven schools spanning kindergarten through grade 8. In 2025–2026, their average proficiency was 79% in English language arts (ELA), 77% in math, and 71% in science, compared with California’s 49%, 38%, and 36%. The schools’ results vary substantially, especially in math, where the highest and lowest school scores were 36 percentage points apart.
Central Elementary is the clearest standout: it led in all three subjects, with 91% in ELA, 93% in math, and 85% in science. Its math score was 18 points above the average of the other six schools. At the lower end, Nesbit Elementary was lowest in all three subjects, at 68% in ELA, 57% in math, and 55% in science. Even so, Nesbit was above the state results by 19 points in ELA, 19 in math, and 19 in science. Among middle-grade results, Ralston Intermediate also stands out: it scored 83%–88% in math across grades 6–8, while Nesbit’s scores in those grades were 40%–42%.
Recent changes were mixed: the seven-school average rose 1 point in ELA from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, while falling 1 point in math and 1 in science; the state gained in all three, narrowing the area’s advantage in math and science. Central and Nesbit improved in every subject, while Redwood Shores Elementary fell 10 points in math and 14 in science. SchoolDigger rates the district 5 stars and ranks it 50th of 968 statewide. The reported measure for all seven schools is free/reduced lunch eligible (FRL), 2024–2025: results range from 5% at Central to 27% at Nesbit; these figures are context, not an explanation of scores. Student-teacher ratios also do not form a simple pattern: Central’s is 25.7, compared with 20.2 at Redwood Shores. All-grades results combine different grade spans, so comparisons within the same grade are more useful where available.
