Summary:
Anderson Valley Unified has two schools serving grades K–12: Anderson Valley Elementary (K–6, 190 students) and Anderson Valley Junior-Senior High (grades 7–12, 192 students). In 2025–2026, both schools’ all-grade proficiency results were below California’s in English language arts, mathematics, and science. Across the schools, science shows the greatest shortfall: the equal-weight average was 17%, 19 points below the state’s 36%.
Junior-Senior High leads in ELA and science, while Elementary leads in math. Their all-grade results were 43% versus 30% in ELA, an advantage of 13 points for Junior-Senior High; 21% versus 13% in science, an 8-point advantage for Junior-Senior High; and 26% versus 23% in math, a 3-point advantage for Elementary. Grade-level results reveal sharper differences: at Junior-Senior High, 11th-grade ELA was 70%, 12 points above the state, while 7th-grade ELA was 20%, 31 points below. At Elementary, 4th-grade math was 44%, slightly above the state, while 3rd-grade math was 16%, 31 points below. All-grade results combine different grade spans, so they are not same-grade comparisons.
ELA and math improved on average from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, but science declined: the two-school averages changed from 30% to 36% in ELA, 19% to 24% in math, and 24% to 17% in science. SchoolDigger’s rankings also rose over the listed years: Junior-Senior High moved from the 50th to the 65th percentile, and Elementary from the 8th to the 23rd. Other context differs little in enrollment and free/reduced lunch eligibility: in 2024–2025, about 74% of Junior-Senior High students and 75% of Elementary students were eligible. Student-teacher ratios were 12.3 and 19, respectively. Chronic absenteeism was 32% and 31%, compared with 18% statewide; Junior-Senior High’s graduation rate was 92%, versus 88% statewide.
