Elementary Schools in Coastal Grove Charter District

The Coastal Grove Charter District in Arcata contains one elementary school, Coastal Grove Charter, which serves grades K-8 with 235 students.

Coastal Grove Charter shows significant academic strengths, particularly in 8th-grade English and 4th-grade math, where student proficiency far exceeds state averages. This is notable given that over 60% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. However, performance varies considerably by grade, with 3rd-grade English and 5th-grade math scores falling well below state benchmarks, indicating inconsistency across the curriculum.

A key challenge for the school is a chronic absenteeism rate of 25.9%, which is higher than the state average and likely impacts learning. The school benefits from a low student-teacher ratio and above-average per-student spending. Its statewide ranking has fluctuated in recent years, but the district overall performs in the 70th percentile. For parents, this school demonstrates a capacity for high achievement in specific areas but requires attention to attendance and ensuring strong instruction across all grade levels.
