Summary:
The area’s one school, TEACH Prep Mildred S. Cunningham & Edith H. Morris Elementary, serves kindergarten through grade 5 and enrolls 271 students. In 2025–2026, its all-grades math proficiency was 40%, just above California’s 38%, while ELA proficiency was 30%, compared with 49% statewide. The clearest concern in the results is that ELA proficiency was 19 percentage points below the state.
With only one school in the area, there is no school-to-school top or bottom; the strongest contrasts are between grades and state results. Grade 4 math stands out positively: 59% of students were proficient, 16 points above the state’s 42%. Grade 3 math was 22%, 25 points below the state’s 47%. ELA showed a similar grade-level divide: grade 4 was about even with the state at 46%, while grade 3 was 15%, 29 points below the state’s 44%. Within the school, grade 4 proficiency was 30 points higher than grade 3 in ELA and 37 points higher in math.
Math improved more than ELA over the two available years. From 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, the school’s math result rose from 32% to 40%, moving from 5 points below the state to 2 points above it; ELA rose from 29% to 30% and remained about 19 points below the state. SchoolDigger’s ranking also increased, from the 1st percentile in 2023–2024 to the 42nd percentile in 2025–2026, and its rating went from 0 to 2 stars. However, chronic absenteeism was 47% in 2025–2026, versus 18% statewide. The student-teacher ratio was 27.1 to 1 in 2024–2025. That year, 69% of students were directly certified for free meals; this is not a free/reduced-lunch rate, and the data note that all students statewide receive free school meals.
