Middletown, California, has six schools serving 1,147 students across elementary, middle, high, and alternative programs, with grade spans ranging from K–5 to K–12. In 2024–2025, the five schools with reported results averaged 52% in ELA, 32% in math, and 34% in science, compared with state averages of 49%, 37%, and 33%. In 2025–2026, averages for the three schools with reported results fell below the state in all three subjects: by 5 points in ELA, 16 in math, and 15 in science. The clearest takeaway is that results vary considerably between schools, and the latest reported averages trail the state in every subject.

Middletown High stands out in ELA: its 2025–2026 result was 70%, 21 points above the state, while its 11th-grade math and science results were 17 and 13 points below state levels. Lake County International Charter led the five schools with 2024–2025 results in math at 48% and science at 47%, respectively 11 and 14 points above state results. At the lower end, Minnie Cannon Elementary had the lowest 2025–2026 all-grades ELA and science results, at 21% and 17%; however, its third-grade math result was 61%, above the state’s 47%. Middletown Middle led the three schools in 2025–2026 math at 30%, but remained 8 points below the state.

Across the same three schools, average results fell from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026 by 6 points in ELA, 2 in math, and 5 in science; individual results were mixed, including gains in Minnie Cannon’s math and Middletown Middle’s science. SchoolDigger’s statewide rankings also declined over the period: Middletown High fell 19 percentile points to 51 (3 stars), Middletown Middle fell 6 to 43 (2 stars), and Minnie Cannon fell 8 to 21 (1 star). Lake County International Charter was at the 81st percentile (4 stars) in 2024–2025. As context, free/reduced lunch eligible figures for 2024–2025 were 76% at Lake County International Charter, 55% at Middletown High, and 63% at Minnie Cannon; these figures do not show a simple pattern with results. Loconoma Valley High’s test-score figures were suppressed, and different grade spans make schoolwide comparisons less direct.
