Summary:
Ladera Ranch has four public schools serving kindergarten through eighth grade: three K–5 elementary schools and one grades 6–8 middle school, with 3,115 students in all and no high school. In 2025–26, the schools’ average proficiency was 81% in English, 80% in math and 70% in science, compared with 49%, 38% and 36% statewide. Every school’s reported result in each subject was above the California result. The clearest overall finding is that local proficiency is far above state levels in all three subjects, though results vary among schools.
Chaparral Elementary is the standout: it led in English at 84%, math at 87% and science at 81%. Its results were 4, 9 and 14 percentage points above the average of the other three schools, respectively. The largest school-to-school gap was in science, at 17 points. At the lower end, Ladera Ranch Elementary had the lowest English result, 75%; Ladera Ranch Middle had the lowest math result, 76%; and Oso Grande Elementary had the lowest science result, 64%. A grade-specific comparison also stands out: fifth-grade math ranged from 69% at Oso Grande to 92% at Chaparral, with Ladera Ranch Elementary at 81%.
Recent direction differs by subject: the four-school average fell 2 percentage points in English from 2024–25 to 2025–26, while it rose 2 points in math and 5 in science. English declined at all four schools; science improved at all four, led by Chaparral’s 9-point gain. SchoolDigger places all four schools between the 94th and 99th percentiles statewide, with Chaparral at the 99th. For added context, 2024–25 student-teacher ratios ranged from 23.0 to 27.0, and the schools’ 2024–25 free/reduced lunch eligible measures ranged from 14% to 25%; these figures describe school context, not the cause of test results. The test-score changes cover two years and do not establish a long-term trend.
