Summary:

Indio has 20 schools serving students from elementary through high school: 12 elementary, four middle and four high schools. The supplied data include proficiency results for 19 schools; Desert Sands A.T.L.A.S. has no reported scores. Results vary substantially even among schools serving similar grade bands: the score ranges reach 35 percentage points in elementary science, 32 points in middle-school math and 45 points in high-school ELA. The most important finding is that a family’s choice of school can correspond to very different reported proficiency levels.

Different schools lead in different subjects. Among elementary schools, Richard R. Oliphant Elementary leads in ELA at 48%, Martin Van Buren Elementary in math at 41%, and Amelia Earhart Elementary School of International Studies in science at 46%. Herbert Hoover Elementary has the lowest elementary results in all three subjects. John Glenn Middle School of International Studies leads middle schools in ELA, math and science, at 46%, 38% and 32%; Thomas Jefferson Middle is lowest in each. Among high schools with scores, Shadow Hills High leads all three subjects, while Amistad High (Continuation) is lowest. Average proficiency generally rose from 2024–25 to 2025–26, but changes differed by school. Elementary averages increased 2 percentage points in ELA, 1 in math and 4 in science; middle-school averages rose 4, 1 and 5 points, respectively. Among high schools with results, averages rose 4 points in ELA, 5 in math and 2 in science. Individual results can move the other way: Carrillo Ranch Elementary fell 11 points in ELA and 10 in math, while James Madison Elementary gained 16 points in science. As context, the reported low-income measure is free/reduced lunch eligible for 2024–25: Amelia Earhart reported 65%, Van Buren 93% and Hoover 97%, alongside notably different results. These figures describe school context, not the cause of proficiency differences.
